I really love taking portraits . The process combines the technical challenge of operating your camera and lighting with the opportunity to make a human connection with someone I just met. We all put up a veneer to protect us from feeling too vulnerable when we’re the subject of a photograph, so I strive to connect with my subject so that I can get to know them, find common interests, backgrounds, challenges, and ideals in common. I strive to be authentic and trustworthy so that my subject feels comfortable enough to lower their veneer and allows me to capture the real person underneath.
One of the organizations I regularly work with is Pinups for Cancer, a group of cancer survivors who organize fashion shows pinup contests, and other events to raise money for a variety of cancer-related charities. Working with them has been a pleasure and the source of some of my favorite portrait moments. Some portraits I have captured that these events and other studio settings events are shown below
