East Africa

Kenya 2010

I first had the opportunity to visit Africa in 2010 when I was invited to help teach at a biodiversity workshop sponsored by the JRS Biodiversity Foundation. While only there for 10 days, I instantly fell in love with the landscape, people and the animals we encountered on that short trip.

My invitation was unanticipated. As a graduate student, I had no money for a good DSLR and took only a Canon SPowerShot SX320 I purchased from Office Depot one evening when I realized I needed a camera. While not fancy, the camera’s 12x optical zoom and 12megapixel sensor was sufficient to capture some award winning images.

Tanzania 2018

Despite being bitten by the Safari Bug, it would be 10 years before I had the opportunity to visit East Africa again. This time, I was a tourist and spent the bulk of my time in Tanzania. This time, I focused on wildlife photography and captured the tip with a Fuji XT-2 and a 100-400mm and 55mm zoom lens.
